Artificial Intelligence at the Core of ISEC’s Development Strategy

March 3, 2026

On March 2 of the current year, a working discussion was held at the International Scientific-Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (ISEC), focusing on the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the Center’s management and academic processes.

The discussion centered on the extent to which, and in what formats, AI-driven solutions can enhance the effectiveness of managing various structural units of the Center, as well as improve the quality of teaching and learning.

The meeting was chaired by the Director of the Center, PhD in Economics Armen Sargsyan, who has many years of professional experience in the field of information technologies. He introduced the capabilities of the AI domain, particularly AI models and widely used tools, outlining their key features and functional advantages. The Director emphasized that a modern university cannot remain competitive without digitalization, data-driven management, and the integration of artificial intelligence into the scientific and educational process. It was highlighted that, when applied competently, artificial intelligence can be regarded within the higher education system as a powerful instrument capable of significantly increasing the efficiency of addressing both academic and administrative challenges. As evidence, it was noted that ISEC has already implemented AI-based solutions, including an electronic online class schedule and an automated academic process scheduling system. International experience was also presented, with particular reference to data security, academic integrity, and ethical considerations.

The meeting was held in an open and constructive atmosphere. Participants shared their observations and identified potential risks and challenges. It was proposed to conduct a comparative study of the AI tools presented by the Director in order to assess their applicability to the specific needs of individual departments. It was agreed to reconvene at a roundtable discussion in the near future to share research findings and constructive insights.

As a result of the discussion, a joint working agenda was formulated, aimed at introducing innovative solutions at the Center while preserving academic values and ensuring the continuous development of educational processes. The importance of organizing similar working meetings and professional development programs for staff in the future was particularly emphasized.
