Brief description of the lecture

This is a short, interactive course of two modules. It aims to introduce a number of basic and advanced concepts in research methodology in cultural-social and medical anthropology.

Module 1 focuses on defining the stages and contexts of research and on explaining clearly what conducting ethnographic research involves. It also covers the use of observation and participant observation, including in digital environments, and the use of the interview as a fieldwork tool from an anthropological perspective.

Module 2 focuses on defining medical anthropology and its methodological characteristics. From a methodological standpoint, it examines the important role of participant observation in understanding healthcare contexts, taking into account their specific languages as well as their cultural and social frameworks and dynamics.

During the two modules, the results of the research carried out in various contexts will be presented. There will be an opportunity to discuss important methodological issues in contemporary anthropology.
