“Library and Information Science” - EU Tempus-Tasis145021-Tempus-2008 UK-JPCR Project

International Scientific-Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (RA NAS ISEC) within the framework of the international programme ‘Library and Information Science’ of EU Tempus-Tasis145021-Tempus-2008 UK-JPCR, has prepared and introduced a new master’s curriculum ‘Library and Information Science’, which complies the needs and demands of current labour market. In this stage the Armenian Government has declared about its aim to construct a knowledge-based society and certain steps are taken in this direction. The preparation of librarians who will comply with demands of the 21st century and will also have an essential role in the implementation of ‘Education-Science-Innovation’ triangle is of great significance to our country. European universities have been preparing such professionals for more than a decade and with the help of our European colleagues we expect to have a programme which will enable to prepare similar specialists in Armenia. Five European universities participate in this programme: Middlesex University (London), the Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland), Parma University (Italy), University of Barcelona (Spain) and Rezekne Higher Education Institution (Latvia), Tashkent University of Information Technologies, Tashkent Institute of Culture and also Ilia Chavchavadze State University in Tbilisi take part in this programme. Besides the Scientific-Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences, the Fundamental Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia also participates in this programme.
Long term perspectives are:

  • Conforming curriculum, teaching methods and relevant education procedures to the international and EU standards.
  • Developing distance learning environment
  • Organizing mutual visits of professionals
  • Technical re-equipment of  the International Scientific-Educational Center
  • Subscription to scientific and electronic journals
