Erasmus+ Success Story: Anahit Manukyan, University of Bologna

Anahit Manukyan, a second-year master’s student in the "Educational Management" program at the International Scientific-Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (ISEC NAS RA), studied for one semester at the University of Bologna through the Erasmus+ Student Mobility Program. She recently returned and shared her impressions in this interview.
─ Anahit, how eager were you to participate in ISEC NAS RA’s student mobility program?
– Participating in this program aligned perfectly with my academic aspirations—to understand international standards of educational management and to compare them with Armenia’s education system. That’s why joining the program was not only anticipated but also a purposeful step for me. It became one of the most significant stages in my educational journey, and I’m grateful to ISEC for providing me with this opportunity.
– Why did you decide to participate in the mobility program?
– My decision was driven by a strong desire for professional growth. The mobility program offered an opportunity to explore European models of educational management and compare them to the Armenian reality. I have always longed to see how the educational process is organized in different cultures. This was an important step for me as a future education management specialist.
– What spiritual or intellectual values did you take with you to represent Europe?
–I went to Europe not only as a student but also as a representative of Armenian culture and education. My goal was to showcase Armenia’s academic traditions and cultural heritage. This experience allowed me to represent my country and share the values that define Armenian culture.
– What did you see at the host university, in Bologna, and in the citiesyou visited during your stay?
– At the University of Bologna, I saw innovative teaching methods where the student’s opinion truly matters. In the cities I visited, I was impressed by the warmth of the people and their cultural diversity.
– What did you gain from the host university?
–I gained valuable knowledge, skills, and cultural experiences that have significantly broadened my professional and personal perspectives.
–How was this knowledge and experience delivered?
– Learning took place through active and interactive methods—lectures, practical sessions, group projects, and international discussions, all of which enhanced my understanding and abilities.

– Did you gain more theoretical knowledge or practical skills?
– Both were important, but the practical component stood out the most. We were able to immediately apply what we learned through numerous group assignments and collaborative projects.
– What intangible values like knowledge, abilities, skills, ideas, or emotions did you bring back with you?
- I returned not only with new professional knowledge and skills but also with priceless emotions and memories that will stay with me for life. These experiences continue to inspire me and motivate me to pursue next goals.
– Comparing yourself before and after your stay in Bologna, what changes would you note?
– Before this experience, I often doubted my abilities and lacked the confidence to make bold decisions. After returning from Bologna, I felt a genuine transformation—I became more self-assured, courageous, and proactive. Emotionally, I am now more open and receptive to new people and cultures. My confidence and enthusiasm for new challenges have grown immensely.
– How important is it for Armenian students to participate in mobility programs?
– Participation in mobility programs is not only interesting but also extremely important for Armenian students, as they open up a new world, introduce new ideas, cultures, and opportunities. Moreover, these programs foster personal growth, developing self-confidence and initiative, and create opportunities to make new friends from around the world.
– How satisfied are you with your participation in this program?
– To say I’m satisfied would be an understatement. My participation gave me new experiences, skills, confidence, and international friendships.
– What advice would you give to students who haven’t participated yet or are unsure about joining such programs?
– If you haven’t participated in such programs yet, don’t hesitate! It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover the world, meet new friends, explore different cultures, and develop personally. This experience will take you on an incredible journey—not only across countries but also within yourself.
