International Conference Emphasizing the Importance of Sustainable Development, Dedicated to Earth Day

On April 22, 2025, the International Scientific-Educational Center of the NAS RA hosted a conference focused on the challenges of the green economy. The theme of the international conference was “Challenges of the Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development”. The event was organized in collaboration with Northern University, aiming to promote academic cooperation and scientific dialogue around the sustainable development agenda.
The conference was co-chaired by Atom Mkhitaryan, Dean of the International Scientific-Educational Center of the NAS RA, and Armen Chughuryan, Head of the Department of Economics and Management at Northern University.
“The green economy is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and sustainable development concerns all sectors of the economy. As a higher education institution, we highly value the involvement of the scientific community in these discussions in order to shape the thinking of future professionals and offer new, environmentally oriented approaches,” noted Atom Mkhitaryan.
Professor Armen Chughuryan emphasized: “A green economy within the framework of sustainable development requires a comprehensive approach, encompassing environmental, economic, and educational components. This conference serves as a platform for experience exchange and the generation of new scientific ideas”.
During the conference, participants discussed policy directions for implementing green economy initiatives, the role of education in shaping environmental values, and opportunities for deepening international cooperation.
The international conference had a broad geographical scope — participants represented nine countries: Armenia, Romania, Spain, Georgia, Lithuania, Iran, Italy, China, and the United States of America.
