Seminar-Lecture on “Propaganda and Science: The Case of the ‘Geghard’ Analytical Foundation”
October 17, 2024
As a result of the cooperation between the Student Council and the Student Scientific Society of the International Scientific-Educational Center of NAS RA, the first seminar of the academic year was held on October 17 on the topic “Propaganda and Science: The Case of the ‘Geghard’ Analytical Foundation.”
The guest speaker was Robert Ghazaryan, Director of the Geghard Analytical Foundation, PhD in Political Science, Associate Professor.
Using the Foundation’s activities as an example, Robert Ghazaryan presented the relationship and interplay between science and propaganda. The discussion also addressed anti-scientific propaganda by a neighboring country, as well as the distortion of historical facts and realities. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of media, science, and civil society organizations as, on the one hand, potential sources of information distortion, and on the other hand, as effective tools for counter-propaganda and combating misinformation.
According to Robert Ghazaryan, if propaganda is properly aligned with and serves the interests of science, it can yield high-quality outcomes—an approach applied by the Geghard Analytical Foundation.
At the end of the lecture, the Director answered students’ questions, which particularly focused on effective ways to counter anti-Armenian propaganda from Azerbaijan, as well as current Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
