Internal Monitoring Conducted at Two More ISEC Departments

April 7, 2025

Recently, two more departments at ISEC took part in internal monitoring – the Department of Informatics and Autonomous Systems and the Department of Psychology. As with previous departments, the process was carried out by the internal monitoring group with the participation of an external expert.

The Department of Informatics and Autonomous Systems is one of the youngest at ISEC. It was established in 2022 as a result of collaboration between ISEC NAS RA and the “Center for the Advancement of Scientific Research” Foundation.

The object of the internal monitoring was the department’s only academic program – Information Systems Development.

It was revealed that the demand for this academic program was driven by the needs of employers. All master's students combine their studies with work in their field. The topics of their theses are based on real requests from employers, which is a clear advantage of the program.

Another strong point of the department is its teaching staff, all of whom are leading professionals in the field.

The program’s organizational methodology emphasizes the use of the flipped classroom model with active implementation of online platforms, which has been positively received by students.

In the case of the Department of Psychology, it is a long-established unit that was founded in 2007, has gone through a confident path of development, and has earned wide recognition among psychologists in Armenia.

The internal monitoring focused on the two academic programs offered by the department: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Social and Political Psychology.

One of the department’s key strengths is its teaching staff – all members hold academic degrees, and many have extensive practical experience as psychologists.

The department remains actively engaged in scientific work, raising current and relevant topics through monographs, articles, and theses.

The visibility and recognition of the Department of Psychology continues to grow, particularly due to its frequent organization of psychological seminars and masterclasses.

The department also stands out for its creative teaching methods, aimed at creating psychologically relevant situations that reflect the issues being studied.

The department’s academic programs (WAPs) are regularly updated in response to emerging psychological challenges.

In response to a question from the external expert regarding the department’s main advantage, the emphasis on the development of practical skills was highlighted.

For both departments, in addition to their successes, the issues encountered during the implementation of academic programs were presented – along with their causes and examples of proposed solutions.

The documentation packages of the academic programs were also reviewed.

Members of the internal monitoring group held active discussions based on the established monitoring criteria.

Both departments left a positive impression on the monitoring team, and the related findings will be discussed at upcoming meetings of the respective ISEC departmental councils.
