January 28, 2015

A seminar in the frame of the EU Tempus «VERITAS» project took place at the Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences after V. Bryusov on 26-27 January. The aim of the seminar was devoted to PhD award criteria and quality standards (Working package 3) according to the Salzburg Principles.

EU Tempus «VERITAS» partners from Germany, Sweden, Spain, UK and Austria along with 11HEI partners actively participated in a two-day seminar.

The representatives from NAS RA – Karine Begoyan (PhD Department Head) and Angela Papikyan (Senior specialist, Foreign Affairs Department, NAS RA ISEC) presented certain achievements of NAS RA in the Third Cycle education so far, talked about existing problems, further priorities and gaps existing in doctoral education. In the end, the local partners’ lightning talks revealed many obstacles and problems which were common to almost all local partners and colleagues.

During the meeting the EU partners introduced the procedure of PhD award criteria adopted in their universities, which was followed by interactive group discussions about the PhD award criteria and quality assurance standards and strengthening the 3rd cycle education in RA by making it competitive all around the world.
It is worth of particular note to mention Oliver Gruss’s (Heidelberg University, Germany) presentation and report on Heidelberg university roadmap, which will be a guideline for RA HEIs to follow in the process of their pilot project development.
